Characters

Usnavi- This character is the narrator and is a major character throughout. He is the owner of a small bodega in Washington Heights. His dream is to go back to his home county Dominican Republic.
 
"Abuela" Claudia- This character is the loving matriarch of the barrio who knows everybody and is like a grandmother to all. Abuela looked after Usnavi when his parents past away. They used to live in Cuba and then moved to New York.

Vanessa- This character is in love with Usnavi and she works at Daniel's Salon. She is beautiful and catches the eye of every guy in the heights. Her mother is an alcoholic and her dream is to live on her own but can't afford it.

Nina Rosario- This character is the first out of her family to go to university. She is a typical good girl and always gets on with her family. She gets annoyed with her dad being overprotective. Her father refuses to accept benny because of his overprotectiveness.

Benny- This Character works at the dispatch of Nina's father, Kevin. Benny doesn't speak much English and is the only character in the play that speaks Spanish. He falls in love with Nina and has a dream to own his own business.

Sonny- This Character is very lazy and is the typical joker character. He is very intelligent and thoughtful.

Daniela- This character is very dramatic and owns the salon. She is the neighbourhood gossip. She is very bold and loud and loves to banter.

Carla-This characters works at Daniel's Salon with Vanessa. she is very close friends with Daniela and is young and pretty. Quite slow and getting peoples jokes and innuendos. she is Chilean, Cuban, Dominican and Puerto Rican descent.

Kevin Rosario-This character is Nina's overprotective farther. Coming from a long line of farmers. has worked hard to resist following in his own father's footsteps. He now owns his own taxi cab service called 'Rosario's'.

The Piragua Guy- This character owns a small Piragua stand that is in compotation  with Mister Softee.

Graffiti Pete- This character is a graffiti artist and friend of Sonny. Usnavi believes he is a trouble maker, until pete reveals his skills as an artist.
